Rigel Sorzano

Biography

Rigel Sorzano is a writer and curator based in Auckland, New Zealand. Born in the West Indies, she practised law before studying three-dimensional design at Unitec, Auckland, graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor of Design (3D).

Rigel has written about craft and design for various publications in New Zealand and Australia, including articles for Object magazine, 716 craft design news and ProDesign, and essays for Growing Up: 20 years of the Unitec Jewellery Studio (Objectspace, 2006), Smart works: design and the handmade (Powerhouse Museum, 2007), and ShowRoom (Objectspace, 2007), an exhibition of New Zealand contemporary furniture of which she was co-curator. In 2008 she was a speaker at Inside Out, the JMGA 13th National Conference held in Adelaide.

Rigel is also a trustee of Objectspace, a New Zealand organisation and public gallery dedicated to supporting and promoting innovative craft and design.
