Jo Victoria: Biography

Senior Research Project Officer, ANU National Centre for Indigenous Studies

Jo Victoria works as a Senior Research Project Officer at the ANU's National Centre for Indigenous Studies. She was employed previously at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies where she worked on Indigenous health and housing research and other projects.

Victoria has lived in the Northern Territory for many years where she worked with Aboriginal community controlled health and housing organisations, the Pitjantjatjara Council, Australians for Reconciliation and the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority. She has also worked for the Commonwealth in the fields of Indigenous heritage protection and management, regional agreements and Native Title.

She has a BA in Anthropology and Aboriginal Studies from ANU, Honours in Aboriginal Studies from the University of Queensland, and an MA from the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre, University of Queensland. Her research at U of Q. focused on Indigenous youth housing need in Queensland.

Jo Victoria's current research interests include research capacity building for Indigenous community controlled organisations, research transfer, social and emotional wellbeing, governance and dispute resolution in the 'intercultural zone' and Indigenous housing design, provision and management.
