Nici Cumpston: Biography

Lecturer, South Australia School of Art, University of South Australia

Nici Cumpston is a photographic visual artist of Aboriginal, Afghan, Irish and English descent. She is currently lecturing in Indigenous Arts, Cultures and Design at the South Australian School of Art and The Unaipon School at the University of SA. Prior to this she taught photography at Tauondi Aboriginal Community College for 10 years. Her current practice reflects her concerns with the environmental damage occurring within the Murray and the Darling River systems. Cumpston was selected and included in the Xstrata Coal Emerging Indigenous Art Award held in Brisbane in May 2006. In 2005, she completed a commission for the foyer of the new Dame Roma Mitchell Commonwealth Law Court, in Adelaide.
