Manager, Tjanpi Aboriginal Baskets
Joanna Foster is the current manager of Tjanpi Aboriginal Baskets having succeeded Thisbe Purich in this role in early 2005. She has joined the organisation at a critical time in its evolution as a social enterprise.
In 2004 Foster completed a year contract as research assistant to Dr Ian Maclean at UWA to support his ARC funded work towards a publication examining western perceptions of Aboriginal Art. From 2001-2003 Foster lived at Wirrimanu, better known as Balgo, in remote Western Australia working with the local community to establish the Warlayirti Culture Centre.
Prior to working with Indigenous people she spent many years as a museum educator working within the Public Programmes Department of the AGNSW. Her academic studies include Visual Arts, Education and Arts Administration.
