Manager, Injalak Arts and Crafts
Anthony Murphy is the Manager or Art Coordinator for the Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre located in Western Arnhem Land. The art centre takes in the region to the west from the East Alligator River to the Liverpool River toward Central Arnhem Land.
As art coordinator for the Kunwinjku people in the area Anthony is responsible for protection, preservation and promotion of art for over 200 practising artists. He has been in the position for over 7 years. He has instigated many projects at Injalak with the main fibre project being the exhibition and book Twined Together: Kunmadj Njalehnjaleken.
Previously, Anthony has worked for 4 years as a Parliamentary Officer in the South Australian Parliament. As well as being a proceduralist, this period also entailed working as executive officer to Parliamentary Select Committee, the three Aboriginal Lands Parliamentary Committees and one year as executive officer to the Environment and Resources Development Committee. Anthony oversaw the production of twenty 'Select' and 'Standing Committee' reports which were tabled in Parliament.
In 2000 he headed up the Economic Development team for South Australian Department of State Aboriginal Affairs.
From 1995 to 1999 Anthony managed two Ministerial offices including the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs. He wrote numerous Cabinet Submissions, reports, briefing papers and letters for the Minister.
He has delivered talks at the 2003 and 2005 GARMA Festivals. His most recent publications include, the Cover article, 'Injalak Hill Suite', Autumn 2006 in Imprint magazine and 2005 'A Fine Balance' in Twined Together. Kunmadj Njalehnjaleken.
