Head, South Australian School of Art
Kay Lawrence has an international reputation as a tapestry weaver and is currently Head of the South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia. Her family originally came to Australia from Wales and England and she spent her childhood in Papua New Guinea.
She has extensive experience working collaboratively in the field of textiles having coordinated many community tapestry projects in South Australia. Her most recent public work was a collaborative installation with designer John Nowland for the glazed entry to the State Library of South Australia. Prior to her involvement in Weaving the Murray, she worked with CraftSouth to organise the national forum and workshop focused on Ngarrindjeri and Maori weaving, Weaving Culture held at Camp Coorong in 1996.
